THE PRETTY STORY
The Pretty Boy story began in front of Gigantti in Lommila on June 1st, 2020.
There I stood, arms full – a brand-new deep fryer, an air-fryer, a pack of beer, and a bottle of Torres 10. I had just been fired for the very first time in my life.
I called Markus, a good friend and a die-hard wing fanatic.
– “This is it. This is where Pretty Boy begins!”
That warm summer night I sat outside frying chicken until three in the morning.
The path was laid.
The idea of starting a wingery had been brewing long before – born among friends while hanging out and obsessing over wings. Street food culture, a passion for chicken, and a focus on sauces all came together in one pot. From Tokyo to Texas – Argentina to Seoul. Mind-blowingly delicious, always prepared with care, just like you would cook for friends.
While the world was struck by COVID, there was plenty of time to simmer even more ideas about gourmet wings done fast-casual style. A great crew came on board:
culinary multitasker, head chef and street food cookbook author Sami Rekola, seasoned entrepreneur Janne Lagerström, marketing talent Jussi Harju, and company culture expert Markus Jussila.
Pretty Boy® is the special rooster of the chicken coop – a phrase that originally came from Finnish poultry farmers. Thank you, JP, for sharing that with us and inspiring the name.
Pretty Boy truly spread its wings in May 2021 when “Wheeler” parked at Töölöntori in Helsinki for the very first time. That’s when our flight began.
There’s a new rooster in town.
